Operating system
For the OS I chose CentOS 5.1 x86_64 (at this moment the latest version) for several reasons:
- I've been using Redhat and Fedora for almost everything for about 10 years, so I know my way around the OS and the settings.
- Well supported. I wanted a high probability that software like VMware Server, Zimbra and Scalix work 'out of the box'.
- I wanted a 'stable' distribution for which I could expect some community support for several years.
- I wanted 64bit if the hardware supported it.
Stuff I'm considering to install
- VMware Server,
- A mail solution for home with a good webmail something like Zimbra or Scalix
- Fedora Directory Server (Open Source LDAP)
- DHCP with LDAP support
- Provisioning software. Perhaps OpenQRM
