Various software

Sun Java JDK 1.6

  1. Download the Sun Java JDK and install it using the normal procedure.
  2. Now fix the settings to ensure the Sun java is actually used in preference to the OpenJDK version.

Make sure that everyone gets the right JAVA_HOME environment variable.

echo "export JAVA_HOME=/usr/java/default/" > /etc/profile.d/java_home.sh

Force the Sun versions to override any other alternatives (these are 2 separate commands, I wrapped them for readability!!).

alternatives --install /usr/bin/java java /usr/java/default/bin/java 999999
               --slave /usr/bin/keytool keytool /usr/java/default/bin/keytool
               --slave /usr/bin/rmiregistry rmiregistry /usr/java/default/bin/rmiregistry
alternatives --install /usr/bin/javac javac /usr/java/default/bin/javac 999999
               --slave /usr/bin/jar jar /usr/java/default/bin/jar
               --slave /usr/bin/rmic rmic /usr/java/default/bin/rmic

 Enable vim for root user

cat - > /etc/profile.d/vim.sh << EOF
if [ -n "$BASH_VERSION" -o -n "$KSH_VERSION" -o -n "$ZSH_VERSION" ]; then
  # for bash and zsh, only if no alias is already set
  alias vi >/dev/null 2>&1 || alias vi=vim
fi
EOF

Set the BASH command line prompt I want

mv /etc/bashrc /etc/bashrc.orig
sed 's%\(\[\\u\@\\h \\\)W\(\]\)%\1w\2%' /etc/bashrc.orig > /etc/bashrc
echo 'alias dir="ls -laF"' >> /etc/bashrc

lm_sensors

yum install lm_sensors
sensors-detect
service lm_sensors start
sensors
chkconfig lm_sensors on
